Welcome to the latest e-newsletter from SFEDI Awards sharing the latest updates within the enterprise skills agenda. Within this week’s update you will find information relating to SFEDI at 10 Downing Street, the launch of our first Scottish qualification and an exciting update about our Enterprise Apprenticeship.
Small Businesses Celebrated at No. 10
Ruth Lowbridge, Executive Chair of the SFEDI Group, joined other representatives from the small business community at an event at 10 Downing Street. The event was part of the government’s GREAT campaign and celebrated the contribution that small businesses make to the UK economy – with small firms accounting for 99.9 per cent of all businesses in the UK. At the event the Prime Minister announced that all the recommendations made in the recent report by Lord Young will be accepted – including lifting the cap on Start Up Loans so that over 30s will also be able to access funds.

Scottish Qualification Launched
SFEDI Awards is delighted to announce their first cohort of advisers from different parts of Scotland who have registered for the new SFEDI Awards Diploma in Business and Enterprise Support at SCQF Level 8. This qualification aims to provide those working within the business and enterprise support profession with the necessary knowledge and skills to carry out their role in an effective and efficient manner.
Nic Preston, SFEDI Awards CEO, said, ‘We are delighted that the opportunity to further develop an advisers knowledge and skills is now available through a formal SQA regulated qualification showing the further commitment to standards within the business support community in Scotland’.
Quality Recognition, a SFEDI Awards Centre of Excellence, has been involved with supporting and accrediting business advisers for a number of years and is approved to deliver this programme in Scotland.
Christine Tolson, QR Ltd CEO, said, ‘We are delighted to be delivering this programme to the first group of participants from Shetland to the Borders and all points in-between who deliver Business Gateway services. We kicked off with a launch event held in Stirling which saw the start of a programme of learning and assessment designed to suit the needs of individual advisers across the whole of Scotland’

Enterprise Apprenticeship Update
Next week will see the release of the supporting material to accompany the Level 3 Diploma in Enterprising Skills in a Business Environment, the main aim of the Enterprise Apprenticeship, in order to build on the increasing momentum already generated in partnership between SFEDI Awards and our centre network.
The Enterprise Apprenticeship allows individuals to look at how they can impact on the success and growth of a business by taking hold of new opportunities within the market by recognising the importance of enterprise and entrepreneurial skills to create a forward thinking workforce.
