Dear Colleague,
Welcome to the latest e-newsletter from SFEDI Awards sharing the latest updates within the enterprise skills agenda. Within this week’s update you will find information relating to success for a social enterprise, an invitation to feedback on the recommendations from Lord Young and news of some exciting new materials coming soon.
Patchwork People Heading for Success
Recently Patchwork People were successful in winning the Community Award at the Best New Business Award – Tees Valley held at the Riverside Stadium in Middlesbrough.
Led by dedicated duo Gill Walker and Marj Newman, Patchwork People is an inspirational example of social enterprise offering support and advice to those needing encouragement delivering training opportunities to help people find employment. The team also supports young people with learning difficulties, enabling them to focus on their strengths and talents to help shape their futures.
They have created a presence on the High Street with a difference called Labelled which is run by young people for young people. Labelled supports young people who are furthest from the job market by creating opportunities for self employment and skills development.
This rapidly growing social enterprise was approved as a SFEDI Awards centre 12 months ago offering accredited training to their customers and has ambitious plans to replicate the business to enable many more young people to benefit from this unique opportunity.
Lord Young Growing Your Business Report
In response to Lord Young’s report “Growing Your Business” published on the 13^th May in which he recommended that “an age cap on accessing taxpayer funded loans to set up a business should be removed” and as trusted professionals within the business support sector we would like to invite you to participate in a survey considering a potential lift in the age range currently restricted to applicants aged 18-30. You can access the survey at https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/startuploanagerange and it will remain open until 20/05/13, the survey is very short and should only take a minute or two of your time. The survey results will be available at www.ioee.co.uk
Thank you very much for your time taken, hopefully we can achieve an outcome which will benefit Start Up and flegling businesses.
Support for the Enterprise Apprenticeship
SFEDI Awards has seen an increased interest in the Enterprise Advanced Apprenticeship including great examples of delivery models used by several members of our delivery network.
In order to further support the delivery of the Level 3 Diploma in Enterprising Skills in a Business Environment, the main element of the Enterprise Apprenticeship, SFEDI Awards is delighted to announce that we are currently producing materials that will be made available to our centre network as of 1^st June 2013.
The materials will provide the learning and assessment tools required for the delivery of this qualification free of charge for you to download from the SFEDI Awards website.
